Since its origin, FireServiceRota has focused on building software to support firefighters. Within our team, we have over 50 years of active, front-line experience in the Fire and Rescue Service, which has been vital to deeply understand our customers’ needs and challenges.
However, as the company is growing, we have recruited a number of new talented business and software developers. To get them to understand who we work for and why, they recently received a full day of introductory firefighting training.
Along with co-founder Ruben Stranders, the development, marketing, and sales teams attended a training session at the facilities of the Volunteer Firefighting Corps at Queretaro, Mexico. They received theoretical lessons on fire prevention and containment, learned how to use fire extinguishers and - most excitingly - they suited up and learned how to put out fires in a real-life scenario. Our team got a taste of what the people we work for experience at a daily basis."
Going through the first lessons of firefighter training made me more aware of what they really go through during an incident and understand how important they are for the community" said Dominik García Bertapelle, mobile app developer.
This experience has helped FireServiceRota’s employees to better understand the people we are serving. As software developer Rebeca Gutierrez stated:"I’ve been working at FireServiceRota for the past two years. Since the very beginning, I felt the importance of what we develop in the company. I’ve visited a number of fire stations in several countries and watched firefighters in action. I even attended a training but only as spectator. I thought I was familiar with their lifestyles, their stories and what they do. But it was until this full-day training that it really hit me. I became aware of what it feels like to wear the heavy boots, trousers and jacket, to work as a team in service of others and the intense focus it requires. It made me even more aware that firefighters are smart and kind people doing their best to save lives. Our job is to deliver software that helps them be prepared and make things as easy as possible for them to perform their jobs, as well as give them the flexibility to be with their families and friends after all they go through. If we can automate some of the processes and paperwork they have to do to ensure people’s safety, we will also, just as them, give our best as individuals and as a team so they have something less to worry about."When we say FireServiceRota is software created by firefighters, for firefighters, we mean it. Our passion is to serve those who serve the community. Having walked a day in their shoes has given our team a better appreciation of who we work for.
